Pastor W. G. Garpenter, of the- ;Yivian Street Church of Christ, Wellington, has accepted a call from.' Onehunga, and leaves Wellington about the middle of October for the North.

The many friends of Mr E. I. Farrington will be pleased to learn. that he is making rapid progress towards recovery from his recent illness. He hopes to resume his practice in a .few days.

The funeral of the late Mr W. R. Gave took place on Saturday afternoon, when there was a good attendance of friends, and.a number of beautiful wreaths were received, including one from the staff of the Levin Co-oper-ative Dairy Co., Ltd., with whom a son of the deceased is employed. Services at the residence in Queen Street East and at the Levin Cemetery were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Fraser. The pallbearers were Messrs J. M. Parsons (secretary of the company),. Y. T. Whiley, J. Ryrie, and three members of. the factory staff—Messrs S. H. Death, H. Mitchell and J. Horne.

The death occurred on Mount Ruapehu yesterday, of Mr J. S. L. Deem, city engineer, Wanganui. Mr Deem, with his wife and friend, left the Chateau early in the morning and were climbing on Whakapapa glacier when death followed a heart seizure. He was 38 years of age and was a son of Mr J. W. Deem,-Director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture. The late Mr Deem was educated at Wanganui and .Canterbury Colleges, and had been engineer tp the Christchurch City Council, Wairarapa Power Board and .Wanganui (City Council. He served 3$ years with the Engineers in the war . and was mentioned in despatches. Mr Dedm was provincial swimming champion of Taranaki. Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui-. He married in 1922 Dri Helen, Easterfield, a - .daughter •of ' Professor T. Easterfield.
