Scheme to Develop Northern Territory

BRITISH GOVERNMENT PARTICIPATING

The Prime Minister, Mr, Lyons, has announced brief details of a big development plan for Northern Territory in conjunction with the British Government. The object is the populating of the area and at the same time affording protection to the natives. A subcommittee of Cabinet is attending to details. Two chartered companies, one whereof is Vesty’s, with immense capital, are prepared to embark on development schemes immediately in return for Government guarantees of substantial tariff taxation and other concessions as well as assistance in providing transport facilities.
Mr, Lyons emphasises that the scheme, which has been endorsed, may he regarded as part of an Empire development pQan to enable Australian defence to he strengthened and permit of the maintenance of a White Australia policy.
