The Demand for Quotas Growing.

New Zealand Delegates Concerned. LONDON, Julj 14. - Agricultural organisations throughout. Britain are becoming :more voicing the difficulties experienced by farmers in carryin'g on under the handicap of the present low prices. .To-day the Times editorially gave approval to the steps so far .taken b} r the British Minister of Agriculture (Major Elliot) .to improve farming prospects with a restriction of imports of .certain commodities; and approval has also generally been accorded by most sections of the Press to the Speech in the House of Commons of the Minister. The farmers themselves largely blame the Dominions for -depressing prices by increased supplies. An instance occurred in the experience of Sir Thomas Wilford, who, when visiting •Cambridge in New Zealand produce interests, found the farmers there bitterly blaming New Zealand, whose produce was prominent in the shops. There can be no doubt that tremendous pressure is being brought to bear on the British Government for the restriction of overseas supplies of butter and cheese, . and Major Elliot, Minister of Agriculture, in turn is endeavouring to impress on the authorities the necessity for some agreement with New Zealand in this direction. He has asked for meetings with the New Zealand representatives, and Messrs. .Forbes and Masters and the chairmen of the Dairy and Meat Boards are in close consultation on the matter. The situation is giving great concern to the Prime Minister and Mr. Masters. In view of the pressure which is being brought to bear, the subject has the foremost place with them •at present. There is little doubt that the restriction of imports • of foodstuffs as a means of raising prices is rapidly becoming an accepted policy with a large majority of the people of .'Britain}.
