RUSH MILKING METHODS.
NOT GOOD FOE THE HEED. The moral of employing ample labour was contained in some of the remarks made by Mr C. M. Hume in his address to farmers at Levin on Wednesday night. He mentioned a case in which six men were engaged in a six-bail shed at milking-time, “They hardly ever have a cow go wrong in the quarter,” he said, “because the men have time to attend to the cows.” Mr Hume also stated that he had heard of a young man who had been milking 80 cows without any help at all. “The pity of it,” said the lecturer, “is that he thinks he has milked them, and he has worked his soulcase out. lam sure that a bit of help with that herd would have meant another 60 or 70 lbs. of butter-fat per cow.”
