Native Grey Duck Becoming Scarce
WANGANUI, Last Night
Concern was expressed at a meeting of the Council of the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society at the evident decrease in the native grey duck, which decrease appeared to be common throughout the Dominion. Members considered that the only way to preserve the birds would be to observe a close season periodically and with that end in view the society decided to make representations to the Government to consider the question of a close season for the whole of the North Island next year. It was pointed out that a close season in isolated districts would be of no value.
