SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee was held in the Schoolroom on Monday evening. Present: Mr Lind (chairman) and Messrs Brann, B'ovis, Murray, Coates, Best, Ventry-Smith, Caldwell, Christian and Mark (headmaster). A report from the Dental Nurse showed that the total attendances for

the month were 178. The teeth of 63 children had been re-examined and 14 new children had been examined. Advice was received that Nurse Hansard had been transferred to Te Awamutu and Nurse A. C. Maloney appointed in her place. The committee passed a motion placing on record their appreciation of the work done by Nurse Hansard and expressed regret at her departure. The Department advised that 50 Douglas fir trees and 50 redwoods would be forwarded for planting on Arbor Day and that should they all not be required some could be given to farmers for planting. This matter was left in the hands of Mr Mark. Mr Mark reported that the roll number stood at 318 and that the avex-age attendance was 299.0. A number of new children had been enrolled lately. Mr Christian suggested that an effort be made to secure a coach for the school football team and this matter yeas left in his hands to arrange. A matter of a supply of sand for placing under the swings and ladders was held over until next meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Laurvig for making free of charge poles, etc., for basketball, also to Mrs Lind for the gift of a cake. Amounts totalling £4 14s lid were passed for payment.
