(From Shannon “Newa.") Euchre Tourney For Relief Fund. On Monday evening a euchre tourney organised by Mr Peach, to aid the Mayor’s Relief Fund was held in Laurvig’s Hall. Mr Laurvig once again made no charge for the hall. There was a fair attendance and the points prize donated by Mr Peach, was won by Mr J. Osborne. The ladies’ prize went to Mrs Oheeseman and the gent’s prize to Mr Geo. McEwen. The evening netted the sum of £1 13s for the iund, <Hrls’ Club Make Merry. The Girls’ Club held a most successful dance in aid of their basketball funds in the Parish Hall on Friday night. There was a good attendance and a very jolly time was spent by all. Supper was provided by the club members and dispensed by the girls’ committee and those responsible are to be congratulated upon the excellent arrangements. Several dances and novelties new to local dancers were introduced with much success, and prizes were won by Miss D, Small axxd Mr F. Hoggard (mystery dance) and Miss M. Harris and Mr B. Harris (lucky spot). Streamers, paper hats, and squeakers all added to the gaiety. Excellent music was supplied by a local orchestra and Mr J. T. Bovis acted as M.C. Saturday’s Football. Great interest is being taken in Shannon in the football match to be played in Levin, on Saturday between Punshau and Shannon seniors. The local stationmaster (Mr Todd) has been acting and has succeeded in inducing his Department to stop the Auckland express at Shannon on its northward journey. The players and public may now journey to Levin on the Napier express, leaving Shannon at 1.43 p.m. and return by the Auckland, leaving Levin at three minutes past 5. An extra carriage is being put on the train for their accommodation. The match should be a good one. Both teams are confident of success ard on the result depend largely the district championship. Departing Settlers Honoured.

A number of Buckley settlers gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Wiggins on Friday last to bid them farewell. Mr and Mrs Wiggins, who have resided in the district for the past 25 years, are moving to Taranaki. On behalf of the local settlers Mr Bowler, senr., expressed regret at their departure. He said that the Wiggins family had always been there with help and assistance for their neighbours when required and the district wculd miss them greatly. He wished them happiness and prosperity in their new home and presented Mrs Wiggins with a casket of silverware and Mr Wiggins with a shaving outfit as a small token of esteem in which they are held. On Monday many of the younger generation also gathered to say farewell and with them joined members of the Druids ’ Lodge. Further presentations were made on behalf of the Lodge. A social evening of dancing and musical items followed.
