DROVING DIFFICULTIES.
APPROACHES TO OVERHEAD BRIDGE TO BE REPAIRED.
At'the monthly meeting of the Horo’■whenua County Council on Saturday, a . letter was received from Mr. K. J. .Hagan, Otaki Kailway, with reference to the state of the fences to the aprproaches, to the Otaki overhead bridge. ;He stated that there was no fence on rthe western side of the southern end, -and no fence on the eastern side of the northern end. It took anything from five minutes to four hours to get stock -.across the bridge, and sometimes one -could not get them, over at all and had to' try again the next day. He suggested that the Council use the ‘hardwood post and wire at the south--end of the bridge; these were at present serving no useful purpose, and were only rotting. He had brought this matter to the notice of Cr. Jensen, some three months ago, but nothing ‘had been done.
■Cr. Jensen said he thought that the ■engineer was prepared to carry nut the improvement required. There was quite a lot of traffic over the bridge at times, and it was very awkward for people with stock. There was nothing -fco hold the cattle and they got down •among the lupins. The overhead bridges were continually being fiin into. There was almost no fence left there now.
*‘ We can only repair it again, ’ ’ said the engineer. “As soon as the light lorry is. free, all these little jobs will be fixed up.” It was decided to send a reply stating that the matter., would be attended to.
