MEN WHO KNIT.
| ABILITY PROVED IN OPEN . ' COMPETITION. i - i _____ | The adoption of knitting as a hobby by men appears to be of-more than a sparadic nature, and it is stated that the new vogue has gained the allegiance of quite a number of members of the njale sex in this district, some of whom have become proficient in turning out such articles as cardigans, pullovers, scarves and berets. As an example of the seriousness with which this occupation is pursued in some parts of the Dominion, it is interesting to note that in an open competition recently conducted by a Wellington firm the first prize in the class for men's knitted sweater or pullover was won by Mr W. E. Beasley, of Lower, Hutt, tbe first prize in the children's class (beret and scarf) was won by Oliffe Henderson, of Arapuni, and the tlurd prize in the class for men's _ock;> went to Mr M. C. O'Connor, of the Hastings district. Levin was no* represented by omen or boys in the list of awards, but a consolation pri'M in the class for matinee coat and hat was secured by Miss Cynthia Parker, of Bath Street, who was previously the first prize winner of the conteji. run by Messrs A. W. Allen's Ltd., of Levin. It may not be too much to expect that somewhere a competition may yet be held for men's knitting.
