PERSONAL.

The friends of -Mrs Feigler, the popular, custodian of the Women's Uest, Levin, will be pleased to learn that rsh'e is making good progress after the operation which she recently underwent in the Palmerston North Hospital, and will probably' be able to return home in a fortnight.

Mr F. E. Parker was re-elected last ißYening as chairman of the Levin Fire Board, on the motion of Mr A. H. Gierke, seconded by Mr W. Jenson. 'The nomination was endorsed by Messrs J. C. Milnes and Hutton, and the Jormer remarked that Mr Parker had carried out the duties of chairman faithfully and well. In returning thanks to the members for their continued confidence in him, Mr Parker said' pe had been- very doubtful about being A nominee for the Borough Council at the last election. Had he not be en, he would not have considered it .his duty to offer himself for election to the Fire Board, because he believed ia direct representation in that connection. The Board had two years of hard work before it. He appreciated and -enjoyed very much indeed the work with the members of the Board. '"' Since our last meeting, we have .lost an old friend, whom we had known for a good many years in Fire Board work," said the 'Chairman (Mr F. E. .Parker), at the meeting of the Levin Fire Board last evening, in referring to the death of ex-Inspector Hugo. "I recall his last appearance here; you -..remember when he said farewell to us -and the Brigade: It is rather touching that, while the evenipg of life was quite young with him, he was taken." llle Chairman also stated that the Board had to record- its regret at the death of Mrs Girling-Butcher, wife of the present Inspector of Fire Brigades. In each case, he stated, the Board's secretary had written to the relatives, expressing sympathy with them in their bereavement. At the Chairman's invitation, the Board stood in silence to pay respect to the memories of the •deceased. The sympathy of her .many local and district friends will foe extended to Mrs W. G. Viekers in the death of her • mother, Mrs C. M. Stansell, which occurred on Tuesday. The late Mrs Stansell, -widow of the late Mr John Rainbow Stansell, was -born at Gravesend, England, in 1850, and arrived at Lyttelton with her parents the following year in the ship Cornwall. She was. a member of the first Hunt Club formed in New Zealand, and followed the hounds. The early years of her married life were spent in .pioneering work in the rugged "MacKenzie Country, where she was one of the first women settlers. Subsequently she took up her residence in Timaru. From ' Timaru the family moved to the North Island, and for many years resided in Foxton. During the past twenty years of her- life Mrs Stansell lived at Lyall Bay and Lower Hutt.
