SCHOOL ENTRANCE AGE.

THE EIVE-YEAR-OLDS. The new provision under the Education Act in regard to entrance age reads as follows: — ‘‘ Provided that a child may be enrolled in any public school at any time within the first four weeiks of the school term in which he attains the age of six years and while so enrolled' may be allowed to attend such school.” Taking the present term of the current year as an example, the meaning of the proviso is that, any child who has attained, or will be attaining the age of six years on or before 3rd September is eligible for enrolment at a school at any time during the period 22nd May to 16th June, both dates inclusive. Likewise, a child who will be attaining the age of six years at any time during the period 4th September, 1933, to 31st January, 1934, will ibe eligible for enrolment during the period 4th September to 29th September next. The recent amendment to the Act debars the admission of any child under the agei of .six years - except as prescribed above. The Wellington Education Board has ashed its teachers to do their utmost to secure the enrolment of such children in order to safeguard the grades of their schools and the positions of the teachers.
