In the Commons a Labour motion for the rejection of the finance Bill on the grounds that it left the heaviest bur dens on those least able to bear them was defeated. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, in reply to some Conservative opposition to the taxation of heavy oils as a burden on industry, said if as suggested there was a general desire for the substitution of a tax on foreign sugar or tea he would sympathetically consider it. The Bill was read a second time by 368 to 48.
