WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

TE HORO BRANCH. " On Thursday afternoon the December meeting of the Te Horo Women’s Institute took place in ther hall, Mrs. Blake presiding over a good attendance of .members. Being the last meeting Of the year, 1932, the business, part was abbreviated in order that the afternoon could be more of a social one. ' Five new members were nominated, these were Mesdames Webster, Aherne, Ruttej,' Barber (Senior), and Miss Taylor. Mrs. Walker was re-appointed to the Institute committee; and it was proposed that Mrs. Blair should represent - the Te Horo Institute in the “Kapiti Group.” Two much appreciated gifts, a dressing table set, and knitting bag, were presented to the Institute, which are to be competed for during the next two meeting’s. • There was a good number of entries in each of the three- competitions judged by Mrs. Harrison, of Pahiatua. The winner for one best coat-hanger was Miss Ashdown, with Mrs. Ashdown second and Mrs. Empson third. The best raffia-made basket was exhibited by Mrs. Terry, Mrs. Walker was second; and Mrs. Jenkins was first forjihe best plate of biscuits (two varieties), with Mrs. Terry second. Much amusement and fun was derived from a novelty item —a surprise packet competition. Each member had been requested, during the November meeting, to bring a package, the contents of which were not to exceed sixpence. Many parcels of all shapes and sizes were given in, these were sold for sixpence, and were opened amid much excitement apd expectation. Mesdames Gawler and Ashdown were in charge of the “Bring and Buy Stall.” V The members were entertained durin the greater part of the afternoon-by Mrs. Harrison, who demonstrated with great explicitness, many very pretty and useful Xmas novelties, which were very much appreciated by all present. A very enjoyable afternoon tea, served by the hostesses, Misses B. Oatley, E. Sinkinson, and O. Ashdown brought a happy afternoon to a close.
