PALMERSTON FREE AMBULANCE.

WOKE IN AUGUST. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Free Ambulance was held on Thursday evening at the Free Ambulance Station, Palmerston North, when, the chairman (Major J. T. Bosworth) presided. Accounts totalling £39 Is were ed for payment. The superintendent reported as follows:—“The service has now been in active operation for the past five months and has attended 138 cases (3£> accidents and 99 medical transports). The mileage travelled in attending tothese was 2503, the calls being as follow: City 105, Feilding 4, Foxton 7,. v Levin 4, Shannon 2 1 , Otaki 1, Manakau il, Tokomaru 1, Rongotea 3, Taikorea 1,. iTangimoana 2, Eangiotu 1? Halcorabe 3, Cheltenham 1, Ashhurst 1, Awahuri. 2, and Ballance 1. “During August, 38 cases have beea. attended (7 accidents and 31 medical), the mileage travelled being 645, the calls being as follow: City 28, Foxton 3, Levin 1, Shannon 2, Tokomaru 1,, Tangimoana 2 and Ballance 1. “The honorary staff provided by the (Palmerston North division of the St. John Ambulance has now rendered 1560 hours of voluntary duty. During the month the ambulance has been iltte®with an electric bell presented by Mr H. Mungavin, of Levin. The efficiency of the Free Ambulance is apparently being appreciated by the doctors as cases have now been attended on behalf of 86 per cent, of the members of the medical profession in the city and district. The financial position of theservice has again been quite satisfactorily improved during the month and. the support that citizens are according the ambulance is very sincerely appreciated. “ /V Letters' of thanks word received fromgrateful patients, the following being an extract from one written by a patient living about 30 miles from the city. “I am writing to very sincerely thank the Free Ambulance for coming to my assistance last week. I feel sure that I owe my life and the life of my baby to your service. I really do motknow what would have become of ns otherwise as you know we were right away from all help.
