IOWA'S STRIKING FARMERS.
OMAHA CITY BLOCKADED. OMAHA, August 29. The second largest livestock market in the United States, which is. situated in this Nebraskan city of about 200.000 inhabitants, has been effectively blockaded by lowa’s striking mers.The goods trains of several railways are stopped, and hundreds of trucks on the highways were turned back as they attempted to bring supplies from the country. All milk shipments into Sioux City were stopped, and picket lines were, established across the main highways leading into Omaha and the city of Council Bluffs, in the neighbouring State of lowa. 'Governor Olsen, of the State of Minnesota, has announced that he is calling the Governors of adjacent States together to consider a proposal for declaring martial law for the purpose of aiding the farmers in their fight for higher pricesA cable message from Des Moines, lowa, dated August 9th, stated that 200.000 lowa and Minnesota farmers had signed a pledge hot to sell for 30 days any farm products at prices below the cost of production. They hoped to tie up all the Middle West deliveries of milk, poultry, grain and live stock. Omaha, where the blockade recorded' above has taken place, is on the right bank of the Missouri River, across which lies the State of lowa.
