A raid on a large scale was carried out by thieves at Penrose last nignt when ilniost the entire stock of meat and small goods in Frederick Birdling's butchery was stolen. Mr. Birdling remained at his shop until 10 o 'clock last evening cutting up his meat and arranging his orders for to-day and also the display of his goods for the window. When he reached his suop this morning he was astounded to discover that the front door had been smashed and practically all his stock of meat had been stolen. A pig, a sheep, 1001 b. of beef cut up into joints, 501 b. of steak, 301 b. of veal, 201 b. ot sausages, Hlb. of cooked ham, several dishes of brawn and several dozen pies were missing.
