To Fly Tasman by Seaplane to Auckland

VENTURE NEXT MONTH,

AUCKLAND, Last Night,

Arrangements for a flight from Sydney to Auckland by a weil-knoAvn New Zealand pilot in an Australian-built seaplane, are in train. The crossing of the Tasman av:11 be made, about the middle of next month subject to weather conditions, and a young Auckland business man Avill be carried as passenger.'

The pilot intends to fly via Lord Howe Island. This Avill be the first occasion that Auckland has been made | the destination of a Tasman flight and - no seaplane has yet made the crossing from Australia to Ncav Zealand.

The pilot is a former Royal Air force officer who has over two thousand hours ’ experience in the air. He retired from the Air Force in 1929 and came to Ncav Zealand where he has been closely connected Avith civil aviation.

ULM CRITICALLY INJURED.

The victims of the Laverton aeroplane crash are still in critical condition.

Charles Him, who was Hingsfoid Smith’s companion on the trans-Atlan-tic flight, has recovered consciousness, hut it is feared he has received inter nal and spinal injuries. His condition - is low. ,

AIRMEN FOUND

ROME, Feb. 22.

The airmen, Flight-Lieutenant L. Hamilton and Flying-Officer E. K. Coupland, have been found in a field in the Apulia district, in Southern Italy. Flying-Officer Coupland was not hurt, hut Lieutenant Hamilton was slightly injured. He was taken to hospital.

Hamilton and Coupland crashed on Friday night. They hit a rocky side of a hill and were hidden by a snowstorm. They remained there until Saturday evening when their cries were heard.

ATHENS, Feb. 22

It is now learned that the British Legation has asked the Government to refuse petrol supplies to Hamilton and Coupland, as they are not authorised to fly over Turkey. . It is suggested that, they may possibly attempt to fly direct from Eome to Alexandria.

The airmen left Lympne Aerodrome recently on a flight to Darwin and back to England.
