ITALIAN BRIGANDS ESCAPE.
' AFTER DEFEATING POLICE PLATOON. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) ROME. May 26. A platoon of gendarmes was sent to San Giorgio to wipe out the Scaffo family of brigands who were terrifying Calabria. They besieged a house, from which the brigands emerged and gave battle, killing the Chief Commissioner and five gendarmes, the (brigands escaping unscathed.
