The Ashton-under-Tyne byj-election •caused by Mr Bellamy’s death, resulted:— J. Broadbent (Conservative) 12,420 J. Gordon (Labour) .. .. 11,005 A. Young (Mosley Party) 4,472 At the general election in 1929 the late Mr A. Bellamy won the seat in "the Labour interests with a majority -of 3407.
