EIGHTY COUNTERFEIT NOTES PASSED.
FOURTH MAN BEFORE COURT AUCKLAND, Last Night. Over 80 counterfeit Bank of New South Wales £1 notes been handed in at the detective office to date, and it is believed that many are still in private hands. Harry Torpy. aged 46, described as a native of New South Wales and a showman by occupation, who was arrested yesterday, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M„ at the Police Court this morning. Torpy was charged with uttering a forged note on April 24. “This man was associated with ono of the other men already in custody, and he has been identified as having passed a note,’ ’ said Detective-Sei-geant Kelly, who obtained a remand. Bail was refused.
