BASKETBALL.

WHAKATANE CLUB. A meeting was held last evening in the Whakatane room'to form a basketball club. There was quite a large attendance of enthusiasts present and several apologies for absence were received from intending players. It was decided to form a club and it to be called the Whakatane Club. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of captain and vice-cap-tain was held over until after the first practice. Miss B. Hearle was elected secretary and treasurer. The committee were elected as follows: Misses M. Ransom, ±', Walker, D. Parsons and D’. Plumridge. The subscription was fixed at 2s 6d for the season and the colours are to be blue and gold. GENERAL. * It was reported that the club had two basket-balls and a few shillings held over from the old basket-ball club. The site for a playing-field was left in the hands of a sub-committee who were deputed to interview propertyowners.

The first practice will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2.30. All interested are asked to meet at the Whakatane room, preparatory to the fixing of a suitable playing field. It was stated that there are several clubs started in the district and the prospects look bright for a prosperous season.
