A dispute between. Mr Scullin and Iris former lieutenant, Mr Beasley, now leader of the Lang group, occurred in -the House of Representatives and there ■were charges of lying. Mr Scullin, in the course of a statement, said. Sir Robert Gibson’s re-ap-pointment as chairman of the Common--wealth Bank Board was by unanimous ■consent of Cabinet.
Mr Frank Anstey, a former Labour 'Minister, declared he objected to the re-appointment and put his protest in writing sq that there could be no mis“take.
Mr Beasley said he was wrongly represented by the Prime Minister. The ■re-appointment was not unanimous and Tie had not supported it. Mr Bay ley asked Mr Scullin whether, 'in view of the statements of Messrs Beasley and Anstey, he had any explanation to ;make. Mr Scullin Implied: “I emphatically •deny both stewments. ’ ’ Amid uproio 1 , Mr Beasley called out: ‘“And I deny that.” Later, when Mr Scullin repeated that i:he decision was unanimous. Mr Beasley cried: “You are lying.” Mr Scullin: “ J leave it to members "to decide who has told the truth.”
