Promise of Plenty Of Gold in Sounds
PROSPECTORS RETURN ‘ •# INVERCARGILL, Feb. 18. A party of geologists consisting, of Professors Benson (Dunedin), Bertrand (Auckland), King (Wellington) and Keble (Melbourne) have returned from a six weeks’ expedition in Preservation ana Cnalky Inlets, on the West Coast Sounds, by the ketch Scout, bringing with them a large quantity oi specimens for analysis. Professor Keble said: “From hiy researches i nave come to the conclusion that there is untold wealth in auriferous metals in the Sounds, but to wrest the treasure from Nature, work would have to be earned out under scientific methods, indications and the reefs met with are exactly similar to the gold-bearing areas of Australia, in no part ox New Zealand is there promise ol such rich results being obtained as in the vicinity of Preservation inlet. 7 ’ Professor Keble suggests that a number of men should be employed in making tracks to open up the inaccessible regions.
