FASHIONS THAT ARE SMART.
THE TAILORED SUIT FOR SPRING WEAR. Tuck-in blouses have really come into their own again, states a London fashion expert. This is one of the most attractive and inexpensive of fashions. If you have a light-weight summer coat and skirt you can have any number of different blouses, and the suit will look a little different with each blouse you wear. For smart afternoon blouses the most attractive materials are crepe satin, the fine linen lawns, or very thin spotted or hair-cord muslin.
To make these look really new and up-to-date you can make them up with little short sleeves reaching half-way between the shoulder and the elbow, so that when they are worn without the coat they will look more summery than the blouses with long sleeves and more “dressed” than those with no sleeves at all.
BIGHT CLOTHES AT SMALL COST
The woman who invests in a summer coat and skirt and a number of different kinds of blouses will be surprised how little money she has spent, and delightful to find that she has the right clothes for every occasion. One very smart ensemble in a Paris collection a little time ago was made of a fine navy blue rep. The little coatee hardly reached the waist, and the black patent leather belt showed underneath it. The skirt was made quite plain from the waist half-way down the thigh, and was then boxpleated to the hem. A white pique tuck-in blouse was worn with this suit and a little shiny black straw hat. WELL-TAILORED SUITS.
It is extraordinary how few women up to the present time seem to have realised the advantages of a really well-tailored summer coat and skirt in a light weght material. These suits are ideal for the women who live, in town, because they can be worn for shopping or for lunching out; in fact, one can literally live in them all day long and they will be right for every occasion. These suits can be made in the heavy-weight shantung or Sydneyham material, -or in very fine repps, thick crepe or foulard. One of the newest materials is a heavy corded silk with a pin-stripe. Dark colours, such as navy blue, bottle green, or the new purply brown shade, are the most practical.
