AUCKLAND TRIUMPHS OVER MANAWHENUA. The representative match between Manawhenua and the Auckland touring team was played on the Showground at Palmerston yesterday. The home team put up a splendid fight, but eventually was defeated by 21 points to 12. The Big Game, i The teams lined out as follow: Auckland (black and white): Bush, Jones, Berridge, Connelly, Jameson. B.aslam, Corner, Solomon, Hadley, Palmer, Greville, Gallagher, Kaihu, Finlayson and Barnes. Manawhenua (blue): S. Bramwell, Tilley, Fletcher, Griffin, Robb, Bramwell, Thomnson, Roddick, Satherley, Williams, K. Fitzgerald, N. Dalziel. Miles, Henry and Fitzgerald. Auckland won the toss and playod with th-e& wind. Manawhenua were penalised immediately and play hung in the • home territory for some time. Finally Fletcher broke away and supported by Tilley and Griffin transferred the game to the other end. Auckland 6, Manawhenua 0. Undaunted by this second reverse, the home team began td assert itself. Miles and K. Fitzgerald were prominent in convincing rushes. However, infringements nullified the efforts and Solomon, obtaining in the loose, opened up a scoring movement. The ball travelled across field to Jones on the other wing. Jones attempted to keep the ball in play and it nearly cost Auckland a try, Tilley nearly going over, Bush being lucky to force. Manawhonua were on top at this stage and Fitzgerald opened up another scoring movement. The ball was handled by K. Fitzgerald and Tilley, the last-nam&l streaking for the corner. He short kicked over the line and a great race ensued. Tilley and Jones loth dived for the ball and missed but K. ..Fitzgerald was in support and pounced on it. Tilley again failed.
