A hard and fast game was played at Manakau on Saturday between the home girls and Ohau, which resulted in a win for the Manakau team. The game from the bully off was very exciting, and Ohau were hard pressed to defend their goal. From good forward p’ay Miss O. George shot from outside the circle, and the ball bounded off the goal-keeper’s stick to rest in the net. Ohau returned to the attack and were unlucky not to score, through the forwards not putting enough* combination into their play, although they went very close to scoring. The game was held up for a few minutes through a Manakau player receiving a nasty knock on the nose; happily she was able to continue playing. After the brief rest Manakau hotly attacked, and were rewarded when Miss R. Gardiner scored from a flying shot. Shortly after the spell ended. On continuing, the game was fairly oven, not much headway being made by cither team, but barracking by supporters on the side line spurred the players to renewed vigour. Misplaced shots by a Manakau forward spoilt chances of increasing the score, at one time when the ball was within easy reach they seemed rooted to the spot and a good chance was spoilt. At this stage it looked as if they were tiring, and soon after Miss R. Paipa scored a neat goal for t oliJaafter ) the opposing full-bacl<s had had an eye full of the ball without endeavouring to respond to an attack. On resuming play Manakau were to the fore again and Miss Gardiner notched another goal. They were still attacking when the final whistle blew, leaving them victors of the day, by three goals to one. Messrs K. Davis and Karauti controlled the game. REP. TEAM FOR WEDNESDAY.
