The Rev. Wm. Beckett has been invited to conduct the Methodist foreign missionary anniversary ser*vutees afc Shannon and Foxton to-morrow.

Mr R. McNeill, late of tho Aahhuxst railway staff, arrived in Levin to-day to take the place on the local station staff of Mr J. Edlin, who has been transferred to Ashhurst.

The names of Mr A. J. Murdoch (chief Government Whip) and Mr S. G. Smith (chairman of committees of the House of Representatives) are still being freelly mentioned as likely Cabinet appointees.

The friends of the Rev. J. D. McA*rthur will regret to hear that he has been summoned to Christchurch owing to the serious condition of his father, Mr James McArthur, who mot with an accident some three weeks ago. Mr McArthur, senr., who is in his 79th year, was thrown from a vehicle and the doctors hold out no hope of recovery.

The Ecv. J. S. Pate, of Oreti, Southland, has accepted the call extended -to him to take charge of the Levin Presbyterian Church. Ho will be inducted and accorded a welcome social on June sth, and will commence his ministry in this district with the Sunday services at St. Andrew'3 on June Bth.

A slight improvement was reported from the Palmerston North Hospital to-day in the condition of Mr Ivan W. Moore, son of Mr and Mrs R. E. Moore, of Devon Street, Levin. He was admitted to the institution oh April 24th for the treatment of trouble caused by gas during his war service, and jfor a while he was in a bad way with pneumonia—so much so that artificial feeding had to be resorted to. His friends will be pleased to know that he is nov definitely on the mend.
