Britons Are Becoming Nation of Teadrinkers
BIG SLUMP IN BEEE. SEVERE WINTER INCREASES CONSUMPTION OF WHISKY. Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LONDON. Dec. 3. Britain’s thirst is being increasingly quenched by tea and less by beer. For the year ended March 31, the beer manufactured amounted to 20,000,000 standard barrels, which is the lowest since the duty was raised in 1020-21, whereas 1 tea has increased two per cent to a total of 4-12,000,000 pounds. The severity of the winter accounted for the sudden jump in the use of whisky to a total of 13.000,000 proof gallons, but the consumption of win* has decreased.
