VALEDICTORY.

TWO MEMBERS OF WHAKATANE CLUB HONOURED.

Members of the Whakatane Clue gathered last evening to bid adieu to two of their number, Messrs Frank Staples and Terence Tuohy, of the local Post Office staff, and who have received notice of their transfers on promotion, the former to Kimbolton and the latter to Patea,

After a tasty supper, Mr J. Roberts handed Mr Tuohy a suit-case and said that a great loss would be sustained by the club through his departure. Mr Tuohy had always taken a live part in the activities of that body, which wished him every success in his new position. The recipient, in a few woll-chosen words, thanked the members for their kind thoughts and gift. Mr. J. Astridge, in handing to Mr Staples a similar case, remarked that he would also be missed very much. Although Mr Staples had only been in Levin for a short while, he had mademany friends; he had also done his share of work, and members were expressing their appreciation of it in the gift handed to him. In accepting the present, Mr Staples said he had not much to say, but would like to offer his most sincere thanks. He had spent a very enjoyable time in Levin, and hoped that he would find his surroundings as pleasant at Kimbolton. . The gathering continued in a social form with much success, and terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne. ” Mr Staples leaves for Kimbolton tomorrow.
