TWO LIVES LOST IN WOODVILLE BATHS.

Two young lives were cut short at Woodville last evening through a ulstressing drowning fatality in the municipal oaths. The victims were:—
HUBERT NOEL DEW, single man, aged 21 years, who resided with Ills mother in Ross street, and who was recently appointed caretaker of the baths.
LESLIE GEORGE KIWI GOLDSACK, 16 years, a grocer’s assistant, whose parents live in upper McLean street.
The pool had only been open for throe days and at (5 o’clock last evening, Dew, Goldsack and the latter’s 12 : year-old brother, Stanley, wont together to the baths. They were the only three people there. Leslie Goldsack stripped and went into the water, the others remaining
dressed at the shallow end. The swimmer had been in the water only a few minutes when ho called out that he was choking and asked for help*. I)cw at once discarded his coat and dived to his assistance. They got
to grips and sank together, Stanley informed a nearby resident, Mr Jack Horne, of the occurrence and the latter rushed to the stripped and dived. Very soon, he was able to got hold of Dew and brought him to the surface.
In the meantime, Mrs. Horne had telephoned Dr. Mules, who arrived in time to assist Horne to bring Dew from the water. Artificial respiration was persisted in for nearly two hours, but without result.
By this time, others had arrived at the baths and began a search for young Goidsack. He was found near the deep end and was brought up by Mr Roy Peebles. In this case also, artificial respiration proved unsuccessful.
The bodies wore taken to their respective parents' homes and an inquest will be held to-day.
