ORLEBAR SECURES HONOUR FOR BRITAIN WITH 355.8 m.p.h.
BEST LAP OVER SIX MILES A MINUTE.

It is officially announced that Squad-ron-Leader Orlebar created a world’s record speed of 355.8 miles an hour, and Stainforth flow at 336.3 miles an hour. Orleoar’s best lap was 368.8 miles. The return laps against the wind lowered his average.
Yesterday was the day fixed for British fliers to make an attempt on the world’s speed record over a straight course of three kilometres. The machines to be used included the SO, flown by Flying-Officer Waghorn, when he won the Schneider Trophy for Britain, and which was to be piloted by Orlebar.
