SURGICAL PRACTICE NOW STANDARDISED
PAN-PACIFIC CONFERENCE
AUCKLAND, Last Night
Tin; Australian and Now Zealand rurgcons who attended the Pan-Pacific Surgical Conference at Honlulu returned by the Aorangi yesterday. Dr. Hardie Neil, of Auckland, said that a high standard was reached in the papers which were read by men who were well-known authorities in the medical world. Most of the general methods of surgery were now standardised, and Now Zealand surgery, by comparison, was well up-to-date in some phases. However, in surgery of the chest, American surgeons were most advanced. The surgery of tuberculosis and that of some other .forms of lung disease was now very much more hopeful. The Pacific Coast surgeons were very active and some specialised in that department. In brain surgery there were doctors present who were recognised as leaders of the world in that science.
