EIGHTY FINNS PERISH IN STORM
WORST DISASTER IN COUNTRY’S HISTORY MANY CHILDREN VICTIMS. Received Sunday, 11 p.m. HELSINGFORS, Sept. 6. The worst disaster in Finland’s history occurred when the lake steamer Kuril, with 200 passengers, left Tara* merfors in the height of a storm, turned turtle and sank in ten minutes. The death roll ts estimated at 80, including school children going homo to spend Sunday. Twenty-escaped in a lifeboat and many who clung to tnc upturned vessel were rescued by the steamer Jargonne, which also picked up scores from the water.
Others who were imprisoned in the Kimi’s cabin escaped by smashing the windows. Many who had lifebelts were washed ashore.
