FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S TEST
MR HUGHES WILL MOVE TO HOLD REFERENDUM

When the division on the second roadof the Maritime Industries Bill, which provides for the Federal Government s abandonment of the Arbitration Act, so far as it relates to industries other than seafarers and watersiders, was taken at 12.20 to-day, the House had been sitting continuously for Hi hours.
Messrs Hughes, Maxwell and Stewart voted with the opposition, while Mr. Mann paired against the Government.
The Bill was committed formally and the House adjourned until Tuesday, when a further critical test will , " 1 " 11 '. Mr W. M. Hughes will move in committee that the operation oi the measure be deferred until it has been submitted to the people by -referendum, or a general election. It is bebosed
