WELLINGTON, Last Night, In speaking on the present alien of the report of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department, Air. J. G. (Joates in the House to-day said tltere, was a great deal of interest in what would be the Government's policy in the development of tourist traflic. He considered it should be progressive but not too ambitious. It was more desirable to carry out the work thoroughly on fewer attractions than to spend money on the merely partial development: of many places. He advocated making a determined effort to develop Rotorua more thoroughly and suggested the construction of a road to Alii ford Hound. It might pay as a commercial undertaking to spend £1,000,000 on roads and other means of popularising tourist resorts of which ho mentioned several which ho considered unrivalled in the world. Air. J. O’Brien entered a plea for the development of access to (Ik; scenic attractions of Westland. Air. S. G. Smith said he did not ask for 'urge sums of money to be spent on the development of Taranaki's resorts but lie thought that the-province should be given its f; ir share and should be recommended in common with others for inspection by visitors to the coiintrv.

Improvements in the road from Timaru to Alonet Cook Hermitage were sought by the Rev. C. Carr, while Air. T. ATakitanara spoke on the general aspect of the subject.

The report was talked out. the House adjourning at 5.30 just' after Air. H. S. S. Kyle had risen to speak.
