CANADA’S FISCAL PROPOSALS
IMPERIAL PREFERENCE THROUG j [OUT EMPIRE OFFSET AGAINST U.S. TARIFF. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. MONTREAL, June 22. Steps designed to lead to mure extensive relations through inter-imperial trade arc being taken by the Canadian government, according to the Finance Minister, Mr. Robb, who is quoted by the Ottawa correspondent of the Montreal Star as stating that eonimumca• tions have already been addressed to the governments of all overseas Dominions on the subject. The newspaper adds that Mr. D. H. Ross, Canadian Trade Commissioner in Australia, had asked Mr. Robb if the Australian pact would be revised.\ " We are going much further than that; wo arc communicating with all the Dominion governments, looking toward greater Imperial trade development," said the Minister. He refused further to elaborate the subject beyond admitting the Canadian communication was likely to lead to a conference on the subject. What is in view is the policy of "preferential Imperialism and development of trade within the Empire by means of an exchange of preference,'’ the common inference being that this development comes as a sequel to the new United States tariff policy.
