HOCKEY.
MANAKAU B (3) v., OTAKI (2). This game, played at Otaki on Wednesday, was a good one, fought out from start to finish,in a way that did most of tlie players credit. Otaki were caught napping soon after the commencement of the game, and Aliss Lander, by smart play, note lied a goal. This was the only score in the first half. In the second spell Aliss George, who kept well up the field, was rewarded by keeping her position, and scored a well-deserved goal. Later a penalty bully was awarded to Otaki and Airs. Seal had no difficulty in finding the net. The same player, who played hard throughout, scored later, securing a good goal and thus equalising matters. Towards the finishing stages Aliss George again scored, and Otak; failed to equalise although a hot shot at the end of the game hit the post and glanced off. Players on both sides played well, but the Otaki defence was not up to the mark and frequently Afanakau broke through. The forwards, on the whole, played well. The Alanakau team proved a good one, hard-hitters, fast runners, and battlers. They made the most of opportunities and on the day’s play deserved their win. ALossrs Parker and Adsett were referees. The To Horo-ites forfeited to Raukawa, being unable to raise a team.
