GENERAL BRAMWELL BOOTH PASSES. A LIFE OF DEVOTED SERVICE. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, June 16. The death has occurred of General W. Bramwell Booth, late head of the Salvation Army; aged 73. William Bramwell Booth was the. eldest son of the late General William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. He was. born at Halifax on March Bth, 1850, and was married in 1882 to Florence Eleanor Soper, daughter of the late Dr. Soper, of Plymouth. After being educated privately, he commenced public work in .1874, ahd travelled extensively, visiting European countries, America, Canada, India, Australia,' New Zealand, Japan and Korea. He was Chief of St ah from 1880 to 1912, and in the latter year succeeded his father as leader of th> Salvation Army throughout the world. He was a joint president of the Temperance Council of Christian Churches and a vice-president of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and in 192(1 he was made a freeman of his native city. The life of Bramwell Booth has been one of exemplary devotion to religious and humanitarian work, interwoven with the responsibilities of administrative duties and organisation in a scheme of great magnitude. Last year, when it war apparent that, through illness and advancing age, his mculties would not be equal to 'maintaining the heavy stiain to the last, the High Council was summoned, under Ihe presidency of Commissioner Hay, of New Zealand, and a new commander-in-chief was appointed, in the person of Gene ra! Higgins. At the same time Bramwell Booth retained his rank, and in recog•iiition of his great public service s tin* King made him a. Companion of Honour.
