OPTIMISM REGARDING KING’S HEALTH.

THOUGHT HIS MAJESTY WILL GO TO WINDSOR

QUEEN’S ENGAGEMENTS

Received ?Jonflav, 2 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 19.

The King’s slow’ progress continues. The amount of nourishment taken is now satisfactory and his Majesty's general strength is improving, it is understood no bulletin will be issued on Sunday but probably one on Monday, This must not be regarded as an indication of any definite improvement but that the doctors do not’ anticipate much change during the week-end. The King’s extremely slow improvement continues to be ragarded ns satisfactory. There has been progress during the last fortnight but it must continue for some tome yet before all anxiety is removed. Encouraging Signs of Convalescence ROYAL YACHTS FITTED OUT. PUBLIC ENGAGEMENTS OF QUEEN ADVANCED. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 19. The Daily Express understands there is great and encouraging significance in the announcement that the Queen will lay the foundation stone of the Nurses’ home at Middlesex hospital on Thursday, instead of a date in February, as previously arranged. The inference is that it is hoped that, in the course of a few weeks, the King will be sufficiently recovered to be removed from Buckingham Palace. The date of the stone-laying was advanced to moot the wishes of the Queen, who naturally will accompany the King when he is convalescing. This is taken to moan that she does not expect to bo in London on the original date in February. The change is regarded as a sign that the King is at long last definitely on the road to convalescence.

Furthermore, it is believed the Queen's visit to Windsor is an indication that the Iving will go thither shortly. The journey is sufficiently short not to,involve the risk of fatigue, yet will provide a change of scene and air, so beneficial to the early convalescent. It is believed to-day the Queen made preliminary engagements for the King’s reception at Windsor. Ho will probably stay there a week until he gains sufficient strength to enable him to make a longer journey. Many places have been suggested, but the general opinion is he will go to the shores of the Mediterranean. It is significant the yacht Brittania has been put into commission. The yacht has ended her racing career and henceforth will be usoly merely for cruising. Similarly, the Victoria and Albert has been completely reconditioned during the past month. Alterations at Windsor QUEEN’S VISIT NOT CONNECTED WITH KING'S ILLNESS. Received Monday, 1.0 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 19. An official statement from Windsor Castle states that the Queen’s visit on Friday .avas not connected with any project of the King’s convalescence there. The Queen spent the day inspecting recent alterations which arc being carried out at her instructions.
