FIRE DAMAGE IN SOUTH.

MANY SHEEP BURNED TO DEATH PESTILENCE FEARED FROM POLLUTED WATER. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copy right.) Received this day, KHS a.m. SYDNEY, This Day. Southern portions of the State have qgain suffered from hot, sultry conditions. Bush fires in the Goulburn disi: trict have destroyed about three thousand acres of grass. Fifty sheep were found burnt to death in one heap at Charley’s Forest. In the midst of the carcases were two dead kangaroos. The animals were huddled together. An additional 500 sheep were destroyed at Barrallicr. The telegraph line to Mittagong was burnt down. A Mungindi message reports that the drought continues in that district and the outlook is serious. Graziers are hand-feeding sheep. The Darwin river has ceased running, and householders are purchasing water at three shillings for a hundred gallons. The danger of an outbreak of fever from polluted water is great, as waterholes arc beginning to give off an offensive odour.
