HOSPITAL FACILITIES.

“PATIENTS SHOULD GET VERY

BEST.”

Two matters which have been the cause of much heart-burning on the part of a certain local body, were referred to by Sir J. G. Wilson, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, on Monday, when extending a welcome to the Minister of Health, Hon. A. J, Stallworthy. “There has been much criticism,” observed Sir James, “of the way in which hospital levies are collected. T must confess that when 1 came ">n to the County Council 30 years ago, I was concerned about the amount that was being spent on the hospital. We were 'then anxious that our money should go on to the roads. When the demand came for an increased levy, we felt that there must be something wrong. Howover the time came when I changed my mind. Likewise, when the change of representation from nomination to election was made, I did not agree, but now I recognise it was the correct move. The administration of a hospital is an expert’s business and I am satisfied that with the nomination system there .would bo a danger of cheeseparing when it came to the question of spending money. “J.l is the duty of the public to Jin-1 the very best equipment (with due respect to economy) so that patients may becomc well again,” continued Sir James. “The public does not know of the amount of attention patients got in our hospital?.”
