A ear containing five, people returning from holidays was within a hundred yards of home at Horotiu when it was struck by the Rotorua-Auckland express this. afternoon and Mrs Alice Armstrong was killed instantly. A motor-car travelling to Dunedin skidded on the loose metal at Fairfield to-day and somersaulted twice over the bank. The driver, Frederick Irvine Kensington, was badly cut about the head and the other occupants, Ivan Chapman and his four-year-old son of Dunedin, and Alfred Fowler of Invercargill, were also hurt. Chapman suffered a broken arm and Fowler and the boy had their face? badly cut. The car was considerably damaged. ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED ON DUNEDIN STREET. DUNEDIN, Last Night. Mrs Bussorah. Helps, aged 75, died late on Monday night from injuries received by being knocked down in King street by a motor car driven by John McGregor, a service station proprietor. The car was on its right side and it swerved to avoid the woman who was hit by the left rear portion. The inquest opened to-day and was adjourned sine die. Ten-Year-Old Girl Carried Out by Tide CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Vera Armistice Reward, aged ten years, in an effort to retrieve a ball she was playing with in the surf at New Brighton yesterday, went beyond her depth and was carried out by the tide before help could arrive. The body has not yet been recovered. .
