CAMPING DE LUXE.

AN IDEAL OUTFIT. A visitor to Levin during the past few days has been Mr Amos McKegg, host., of the Wanaka Hotel, on Lake, Waiiakn, who is about to undertake an extended motor tour of the North Island, with whatsis probably the most complete and comfortable camping outfit yet seen on the road. A “Chronicle V representative, who. visited Miss McKegg’s residence in Saxon Street, yesterday, where The camp was erected on the lawn, had the pleasure of inspecting the outfit, which is carried on a two-wheel trailer behind the motorcar. The tent itself is of green waterproof canvas, 14ft square with sft walls and two windows-in each end. These are covered with ». white canvas net and ares provided on the outside with a green canvas blind of the same material as the tent. On entering the foreground was occupied by a collapsible table and four folding chairs, and in the corner on the left was a Kampkook benzine stove. This also ia collapsible and all folds up into a very compact space, but it is nevertheless efficient for besides using the two burners for boiling the kettle, the oven can be used for baking or roasting-, or in cold weather for-heating the tent. Behind this in the centre was the trailer an'd one naturally wondered why this should be taken inside to occupy s> much room. There were a number of economic reasons for this. In the; first place 1 wo . supports for the ridge are erected on the trailer and two folding beds open out from it. The sides of the trailer act as one of the supports

of each bed, the other side being supr ported by two folding legs. Each bed is 6ft 2in x 4ft and is about 4ft'off the ground, leaving ample room mulyrneath. They are of strong wire suspended at each end on springs on the same principle as a hospital bed. There is a ■ light kapoc mattress on each. Extra sleeping accommodation can be provided on the floor of. the trailer which is clear for any such purpose. Underneath the trailer at the back are two cupboards each piovided with a zinclined drawer to carry provisions'‘and two smaller ones in front provide storage space for tent pegs. etc. Canvas screens are provided Vo divide the ten* into three compartments. -Everything seems to bo-designed for a purpose for even the back of the trailer when let 'down provides a comfortable seat for twe people, ancLis just at a coiTyeniont height. The ridge pole is hinged and folds into three and the front upright is.hinged, so as to fold in two. Nothing is over Uft 2in. in length, when packed and when the outflt is ready for transport there is nothing' overhanging. Th.' whole camp can be arranged in 20 minutes and the weight of the outfit makesno material difference to the travelling or speed of the ear. When, packing- up, even in wer weather, everything can be put on the trailer dry before the

tent -is-taken down* and- when : -pitching* camp the trailer can be fun in uchder the shelt rr of the tent before it is half pitched. .- ,7 lir and Mrs Mdvegg, accompanied by their niece, Miss Gwen Habner, smarted yesterday for their tour of the North Island, going by way of Napier, 1 Vaupo, and the National Park, right ihroligh to ffussell and returning-, via New Plymouth. -With such <a complete outfit they, should thoroughly enjoy the -beauties of North Island scenery and have the utmost comfort in travelling -and accommodation.
