MUCH DAMAGE DONE. CBv Telegraph-.-Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. A severe north-west gale raged dur-' ing the night, "inteinipting telegraphic communication. Damage is reported at Whatatutu, where the gale was of unparalleled severity. The verandah of the hotel was lifted bodily, carried over the buildings. and deposited in the back yard. Every chimney of the hotel and other buildings were demolished. The roofs of several houses were blown off and the iron scattered, all over the countryside. A number of. small outbuildings were razed to the ground. Tanks and trees were also knocked down. At Gregory’s store, which is also the post office, half the roof was harried across the road. , At Euatoria the balcony of the hotel was blown away. Windows were smashed, and power lines were brought down.
