GRIME OUTPOINTED BY SMITH IN EVEN BOOT

BRIDGEPORT (Connecticut) Aug. IS. Billy Grime was outpointed hero by Steve Smith in a ten-round bout. Grime weighed 1281 b. and Smith 12741 b. In the first round -Grime staggered the veteran Smith with a scries of rights to the chin.
The second round Grime took easily with left hooks,- and elusive dodging. On attack he employed a long left and "a short right.
In the third round Grime won the applause of the crowd by neatly outboxing Smith. In the fourth round Smith got under Grime's open defence and drove him about the 1 ring w.ith rights and lefts to the face. In the fifth round Grime's defence fV.iled. Smith opened a cut over the Australian's right eve with a flicking left.
The sixth round was even. In the seventh round Grime floored Smith briefly with a right. The eighth and ninth rounds were even, Grime outbo.xing Smith, but the latter landing enough blows to even the score.
In the tenth round Smith outpunched Grime and won the round and the judges' decision, which was unpopular with the crowd and newspapermen present.
Grime, however, showed the need of further practice and the necessity for more effective defence tacics. e
Tlie fight was fast and bloodless and very nearly even with the. consensus of opinion apparently favouring Grime.
