THE CLUTCH PEDAL

DON’T USE AS FOOTEEST;

Keep your foot off the clutch pedal until you are ready to shift gears or stop the car. “Biding the clutch” or in other words, keeping the foot continually on the clutch pedal, is a habit that has hastened many a'good ear on its way to the scrap-heap.

When the foot rests on the clutch pedal the clutch starts to slip. It maybe imperceptible at first, but wear will surely develop, until finally the clutch will slip all the time, and is ruined. The constant slipping glazes the surface, and the clutch spring loses its tension. Furthermore, the pedal pressure puts a load on the clutch release bearing and causes that to wear also.
