MAIN HIGHWAYS WORK.
PROGRESS IN APRIL. Among the works carried out under the Main Highways Board in April were the following:— Wellington-Auckland, via Taranaki.— Johnson villc Town Board: 20 chains of bituminous concrete has been completed. Tawa Flat-Porirua: 21 chains from the hospital entrance to the railway crossing has been scaled with bitumen. Paremata to Horokiwi Valley: 20 chains of widening to 24ft. has been completed, and a further 10 chains is in hand; 20 chains of bituminous sealing has also been completed. Paekakariki-Waikanae: Approximately 1 mile of widening to 24ft. has been completed. Waikanae to Man'akau: 1 mile of bituminous macadam lias been completed between Otaki and Manakau.
fjevin-Palmerstou North, via Shannon. —The erection of the Kara Stream bridge in. the Makerua Swamp is in hand.
Fo xton-S han n o n.—M anaw at u River bridge: Good progress has been made with the superstructure and painting. The concrete abutments for two small bridges on the approach to this-bridge have been practically completed. Formation at both ends is well in hand.
