REPLY, TO “SPECTATOR.”
(To the Editor.)
Hear Sir, —Kindly allow me space in your paper to answer “Spectator’s” criticism of, the rough play in the Miranui-Shannon junior match last Saturday week, also his unfair remarks on Mr Sands’ refereeing. 1 think, and most of the players on each side will agree with me when I say, that it was played as Rugby should be played, clean and hard. Everyone who knows tho least bit about the game knows that there is a big difference in rough and hard play and a player to be any good and get on in Rugby has to plajr hard. . As to the refereeing, Mr Sands is to be congratulated on the manner in which he controlled the game and players, and is a very valuable man to the Horowhenua Rugby Union, who could do with a few more like him, as everybody knows “Hick” to be as “square as a die.” He is giving a better display every Saturday he takes the whistle. Oh; “Spectator,” if you expect cleaner play and better control of the game, take mj’ advice and stay away and I am sure the two clubs in question would buy you a ping-pong set. One thing 1 am pretty sure of, “Spectator,” is that YOUR football career was very short. I am etc. “PLAY THE GAME.”
