TEACHERS’ TRANSFERS.
MUST GO WHERE SENT
NKLSOX, .May lit The Teachers' Appeal Court consisting of .Mr. T. Mansell, S.M.. and .Mr. A. Robinson lias been engaged the lusttwo days hearing the appeal of the teacher oT a sole-teacher school against transfer to. another school of similai grade and salary. Mr. I’. W. 0. Smith, chairman of the Education Board, appeared for the. Board, and Mr. IT. A. Parkinson for appellant. .after bearing evidence Mr. Mansell ?aid he and Air. Robinson were in agreement as to the attitude (he Court should take. up. The question for the Court to decide was whether the transfer was wrongful or not. The Court should be more hesitant in overruling the action of the Board in making a transfer than it should be in the cast 1 of; suspension of dismissal. A school teacher was in the same position as any other servant and had ho vested right to any particular position. Evidence of appellant was inconsistent with that of the secretary of the Education Board, two Inspectors, and a child welfare officer, all whom were particularly qualified to give -evidence. Either appellant was making a success of tho school or else she was not. It could not be believed that all the Board’s witnesses were under a delusion.
“Before wo can allow the appeal wo must discredit the whole of their evidence. The Board did not rush into its decision to transfer but gave the case long consideration.
“Although wo dismiss the appeal our action is nothing in the nature of a condemnation of the teacher in question as a teacher. There is no reason why she should not rise in the profession.”
The appeal was dismissed ami the transfer confirmed. Costs were allowed against appellant.
