MYSTERIOUS FIRE.

INTRUDER HEARD IN BUSINESS PREMISES. OCCUPANTS HAVE NARROW ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, This Day. Under peculiar circumstances a block of five buildings in the centre of Taradale, five miles from Napier, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The buildings were occupied by T. H. Crutchley, a baker by trade; G, Linos, hardware store; M. J. Carrie, a tailor by occupation; and Miss Jeffares, dressmaker. Mr Crutchley says that his' Irnise was broken into the night previously, when the key of the bake-house was stolen. Last night he heard an intruder below, but received no answer to a challenge A fire broke out in the bakehouse shortly after. There had been no fire in the bakehouse since Tuesday morning. All the occupants escaped in their night attire. The absence of water prevented the Napier firemen from assisting. The insurances arc unknown at present.
